Since the late 80's I have always wanted a Grand National but never understood all the hype that was put on these cars.
In 1991 I got to take a spin in a 86 T-Type (Tony & Joe). It only took a few miles and a couple of stop light to
stop light runs to make me understnd that this was not the everyday Regal. I was hooked and I knew it. It wasen't until the
mid 90's that I got into the whole speed thing. From 1996 to 2001 I owned 2 dragsters (Spitzer and a Nelson Racecraft), pro-stock
(Gebhardt), 32 Ford 3 window coupe and a 66 Dodge Coronet (440ci).
I started looking for the right GN in early 2005. I looked for months. After countless hours or web surfing and back
and fourth emailings that I found the one I wanted. The pictures looked good. Car looked to be nice and straight, the interior
was close to mint. I drove the 12+ hours, took it for a spin and loaded it up on the trailer. Now, this is when the lesson
started for me. As with anyone and a new toy I jumped right it, buying this and buying that. I never imagined that parts would
be so hard to find. Talk about expensive, I was having flash backs when I was buying Mopar Performance parts.
On the following pages you will see my slow progress in the stripping and painting. With help from Scott Herpich (Scott's Customotive), I have learned a new respect for the guys that spend hours upon hours
stripping and sanding cars. I am learning as we go. Nothing like jumping in head first.
